” I forget. I forget so quickly. I need some memory exercises.”
I often get this request, so today I’m starting a series of exercises for improving memory. Like any other constant training, memory training can lead to amazing results.
Memory and vocabulary
If you find your vocabulary rather poor and you always use the same words, try to work more with the dictionary. You could do 2 in 1: practice memory exercises and increase the number of words you use daily.
All languages have words with long series of synonyms. For example the noun “calm”.
slow; quiet; peaceful; harmonious; imperturbable; smooth; undisturbed; relaxed; still; pacific;
Try to memorize these synonyms. Replay them the next day by writing down or just saying them. How many did you retain? Don’t worry if there are only five.
If you also formulate sentences in which you include synonyms, you will remember them more easily. And you will have a beautiful speech.
Read the text carefully:
“A padishah received as a gift for his birthday, ten boxes with precious stones: diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and topazes. The number of boxes containing topazes was equal to the number of boxes containing diamonds, and the number of sapphire boxes was the same as the number of ruby boxes.
He put half the diamonds and all the sapphires in the vault and ordered a dozen ruby rings from a jeweler.”
Play the story freely and register yourself. Retell the story the next day and compare it to the recording. Did you miss, add, or replace something? In my next article, see some memorization techniques.
What did you find most difficult in all these exercises? What helped you? If you like more exercises to stimulate memory, attention, and concentration, accompanied by support and analysis, contact me.
